Pachyta armata
Very nice beetle - was fortunate to collect a single specimen on one trip to Washington

Yes.
This is indeed a lepturine longhorn. I think I recognize it, but, having never collected one myself, I've forgotten the genus name:-)

Lepturobosca chrysocoma
Thanks Eric........ and in trying to ID these Lepturinae I'm thinking Lepturobosca chrysocoma is at least close, based on pics and refers.... found one ref discussing L.(syn Cosmosalia) chrysocoma as a common visitor to Xerophyllum tenax....in the Cascades http://www.amjbot.org/cgi/content/full/91/12/2060/T1
as well as a second vague ref to the same association w/ X. tenax...

so despite some slight variations in appearances this seems a good start, now just wished had better pics!!!

also I learned X. tenax produced no detectable nectar so sounds like these guys after the pollen.... had always thought of Cerambycidae as wood munchers

No, Pachyta sp.
This is a species of Pachyta, distinguished by the broad "shoulders."
