Maybe a Carolina Grasshopper?
I am definitely no expert, so wait for their input. I'm leaving a comment as the first insect photos I sent to BugGuide.net were identified as a Carolina Grasshopper. The tell-tale ID mark is a small "hump" just in back of the head. I think, but am not sure, I see that on your photos.

It will be interesting to see what the experts think.

Wow! I was right! And that's because there are excellent teachers on this site, both professional and non-professional. Congratulations! It's always exciting to learn of a new insect you've never seen before!
