Minute Oval Abrostola, #8883 - Abrostola microvalis

Minute Oval Abrostola, #8883 - Abrostola microvalis
Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA
October 2, 2012
Size: Length ca. 13 mm.
I've seen this medium-sized moth frequently in the Texas Hill Country. I've photographed similar individuals mid-March to early May and in Sept-Oct in Travis and Burnet Cos. Consistent characters include:

-- Double a.m. and p.m. lines
-- Buffy inward of a.m. line and tall ragged buffy collar ("mohawk" style)
-- Median spots well outlined
-- Pale whitish-gray in outer 1/3 beyond reniform spot and p.m. line
-- 3 to 4 narrow black streaks near apex

Noctuidae: Abrostola microvalis - Hodges #8883
Moved from Moths.

Fairly common in central/south TX.
