Size: 10 mm
This little fly was very friendly, perching on my hand repeatedly. Thanks for help on ID!
Update on size: in another photo, I have the fly against some features on my left hand. Measuring these and comparing to the fly, I can say confidently that its body length is right at 10 mm, or a hair more.
