but what does "do not curve dorsad posteriorly" mean? What do yo mean by "curve"? The lateral scars do not extend dorsally to the mid line? Do you have pics of both you could place next to each other to show the differences?

I'm following Steven Beaty on this -- "The Trichoptera of North Carolina," p. 76. His words, on H. rossi, "rows of muscle scars on side of head not curved dorsad posteriorly."
I take that to mean that the rows do not move up towards the top of the head at the back of the head. On H. venularis, they "do" "curve dorsad posteriorly" (Beaty, p. 76). I've added a photo of H. venularis to show that.
