Moved
Moved from Owlet Moths. We found something similar under Acontia, but no species name :(

We may have to wait a while more,
but we're guessing we will figure this out eventually. As more and more folks raise caterpillars, we'll be getting more life series, and we're betting this will pop up somewhere. We think Wagner is looking at Texas and the southwest for his next book, so the future looks bright!

Interesting. Didn't think about the fact that we might be seeing
all the prolegs there are. That would put this in Acontiinae. Tarache? Ponometia? Spragueia? That would fit the head capsule better!

head cap isn't fully formed yet
Val suggests it might be a mid instar bug plus the fact that I didn't collect any host info, she doesn't think it can be taken any further...

The eyes on yours are in a strange place
It looks like it is in the act of molting in your image. We didn't know what that might mean for the head capsule shape.

I sent it to Val...
and she points out that the number of (visible) prolegs don't match with Cirrhophanus...

Wonder if this might be
related to Cirrhophanus triangulifer

possibly, but note diff. head capsules

Cirrhophanus triangulifer Grote

Cirrhophanus pretiosa (Morrison) seems to be the local (CenTex) sp. in the genus.

Concerning the head cap. diff., it's possible that my image shows an individual that's just molted its head cap...
