Chrysidinae - Chrysis - Female
Cape May Point, Cape May County, New Jersey, USA
September 29, 2012
Size: Maybe around 10 mm?
I can't get it past Chrysidinae - maybe Chrysis. My first one so I took a lot of shots, hopefully there is something useful in one of them.

I am sorry but I can't identify this specimen any further than C. ignita species group (also referred as C. coreulans species group in the literature dealing with the New World fauna). Species of this group are even difficult to identify under microscope. Moreover this group needs revision and existing keys are outdated.

Thanks!
I caught this one on the fence down by the beach. It is the first one I have ever shot so I tried pretty hard to get something good. I chilled it overnight, then started with the curled up shot, so if you start with that image and then loop back to the first few, that is the real sequence as it woke up.

I agree...
Nice shots John. Did you chill this?

Unbelievable!
John,
It's absolutely amazing what you can do with a Canon PowerShot SD 1400 IS. Your DOF is incredible. I hate to say it, but I can't get this kind of detail with DSLR and a Canon MP-E 65mm. But I'm going to work at it, for no other reason than to rationalize the cost of that lens. Well Done!
Robert
