Size: ~1 inch with antennae
Found this clinging to an exterior wall. I thought it was a clearwing borer moth at first.

I was thinking Hymenoptera, too (Cimbicidae). Never heard of this critter. :)

Thanks Ross, I'd never have found that. Might not be such a nice find for some of the local plants :) I found info on this site suggests that adults tend to swarm around the DC area in late October.
