Tropical Wolf Spider - Ctenus hibernalis

Tropical Wolf Spider - Ctenus hibernalis
Pelham, Shelby County, Alabama, USA
October 12, 2012
Size: 5" from tip to tip
Identified via www.reddit.com/r/spiders as a Tropical Wolf/Wandering Spider. I found this in my home in central Alabama, crawling along the ceiling of my daughter's upstairs bedroom. The spider seemed somewhat docile and not aggressive. I captured it, took photos of it, then released it outside. From the tip of the front leg to the tip of the back leg, it was about 5 inches. This is my first time posting on this site, so please let me know if I'm breaching protocol. Thanks!

Moved from ID Request. Nice one. If you have a shot showing the entire spider including the legs we'd like to have that for the guide as well. Thanks.

I just added one bird's eye view of the whole spider with legs.

Very nice. Thanks.

Ctenus hibernalis?

No breach of protocol, just lovely images. Spiders are usually measured from the front of the carapace to the back of the abdomen. Arthropods in general are measured without counting appendages, just "body" size. The other thing we would mention, and it would help if you edited all three images to fix this, is that you put Alabama and USA in the location field. No need to do this. You have already selected Alabama in the state field and because you did so, the software will automatically insert USA. You can see that it appears twice in your description. So please click on edit for all three images and delete the Alabama and USA that you typed in. Thanks,

Ctenus hibernalis?
Agreed, very nice images! C. hibernalis looks good to me too based on the range and appearance. I found a checklist for Alabama (albeit under construction), which only lists C. hibernalis:
