Bee Fly - Geron

Bee Fly - Geron
Jupiter Ridge Natural Area, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA

I've shot this species before at this preserve, but thought I should add this image as well – it's much more detailed.

Primo! Bee fly Tony
What a great shot!

kudos
Congratulations! That's a beautiful portrait.

Interesting behavior.
This, or a nearly identical species, does the same thing here in Tucson: perches at the tip of foliage. At my apartment complex there are hedges of oleander, and I often see these flies perched at the very tips of the highest leaves. I wonder if this is something like "hilltopping."

Wow!
Great portrait, Tony.

Thanks Hannah,
You hike through these trails for several years and you are finally bound to get a decent shot:)
