planthopper - Bothriocera

planthopper - Bothriocera
Calvert County, Maryland, USA
July 3, 2006
Size: tiny
Attracted to the house lights. Seems to be an unusual pose for a leafhopper. I think this is Xestocephalus but am not sure of the species.

Moved

Bothriocera maculata
The head has sharp angles in front of the eyes, which is distinctive for this genus. The wings are much paler in B. maculata than in B. cognita, the only other species that occurs this far north, and the apical cells characteristically have a single brown spot.

Thank you...
I don't know how to move this to the Guide as cognita is the only species. Hopefully someone who knows how can take care of it.

New page
I created a new page and moved it. Next time you can move it to genus level and also request that one of the editors create a new page.

OK
Thank you.

not a Cicadellid.
This is in the Fulgoroidea.
Maybe a Cixiid.
e.g.

Agree.....
I was way off on this one. Definitely looks more like a Cixiid.
