Gall Wasps - Dryocosmus favus

Gall Wasps - Dryocosmus favus
Basking Ridge, Somerset County, New Jersey, USA
October 13, 2012
This is the whole thing, at first I thought it was some sort of flowerlike fungus until I saw a little wasp crawling on top of it, then decided to bring the whole thing home. It broke into a few pieces because it was like in a hollowed out section at the base of a tree so it was hard to see what I was doing/get in at the right angle to break it off in once piece.
