aphid (yellow)

aphid (yellow)
City of Greater Sudbury, Fairbank Lake, Ontario, Canada
October 12, 2012
Size: approx 5mm
Small yellow insect with brown markings. Is it a leaf hopper?

Moved tentatively based on the following pers. comm. from...
...Andrew Jensen: "Based on time of year and location, this is probably an ovipara, possibly not quite mature, and it is almost certainly Calaphidinae, something like Calaphis or Oestlundiella."

Moved from ID Request.

Confused on Calaphidinae.
So most the books I use say the subfamily is Myzocallidinae, an then some say Calaphidinae. Is there a definite decision on that or does it just depend on the aphidologist you're talking to?

why Calaphidinae:
on BG, we follow the classif. in Aphid Species File(1), adopted tacitly as BG's 'standard' source [see(2)]
the synopsis on the family page was reviewed and approved by Dr Jensen

I see siphunculi!
Very very short little black ones. This makes me think Chaitophorinae or Myzocallidinae. I can't see the cauda at all though, and I'm not all that great with apterous aphids.

great --thanks, Natter.
hands-on experience makes all the difference.

aphid of sorts, i suspect... syphoneless
