Gayle Strickland passed away last Saturday

"Participating in the Bugguide community was source of great pleasure for him and he missed it," wrote Jeanell.
To Gayle we owe hundreds of images that are among the best examples of scientific photography ever.

Stricklands' work | Obituary

What can i say... Immense loss. He was the best -- not just as naturalist and nature photographer.

Condolences to his family.

He was battling a cancer for two+ years. I didn't know, but suspected something was wrong: he's stopped answering his e-mail.

Sorry to hear it
I didn't know Gayle personally, but he seems to have been someone for whom "a scholar and a gentleman" was more a description than an empty compliment.

Very sad to hear this
But from what everyone has said, it seems that he lived a great life and left a lot of wonderful impressions, not to mention lots of incredible images. Thoughts and prayers are with Jeanell and the rest of his family.

Sorry for your great loss,Jeanell.
I wish I could have spoken with him again,he has always kindly helped
me and others each and every time I called him asking for help with
photography. It was his great work that got me excited about how it
should be done.He was a lot of fun to talk with and I know he had
intentions of posting more of his work,I always checked, hoping for
more.He will be missed.

Nothing gold can stay
Sad news. My condolences to you and the rest of his family, Jeanell.

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Condolences...
His contributions will be looked over again and enjoyed. We can only hope to contribute something to the world in our lives, no matter how big or small, it all matters. I wish I got to know him.

very sad news
He will be missed.

Sad to hear that
His work was greatly appreciated. He will be missed.
Condolences to the family.

Yes, very sad, he will be greatly missed.
We will miss his photographs, his emails, his phone calls where he often voiced his care for so many of us here at BugGuide. But he seems to have lived the good life and we find ourselves smiling as we think of him now, picturing him with the Strickland Rig in hand, trapping dragonflies along some stream! - Jane and John

Gayle Strickland
So sorry to hear about this. I've always enjoyed his photos on Bugguide.

Very Sad News
I always enjoyed his images. I didn't know he was a telescope maker, something I've been doing since the mid 70's.

RIP Gayle
