This is a Datana. Can it be perfusa? Both photos are from the same group of caterpillars on a bush. The maroon ones were smaller (earlier instar) and the black ones are larger

Looks like
Datana perspicua to me on possibly winged sumac. I experienced an explosion of these caterpillars in a remote area of dwarf sumac late this summer. They devoured many plants in a couple of days and changed from red on yellow to black on yellow very quickly.
Since I'm not an expert, you may want to get expert ID.
