Colorful Ground Beetle(?) - Stricticollis tobias

Colorful Ground Beetle(?) - Stricticollis tobias
Basking Ridge, Somerset County, New Jersey, USA
October 20, 2012
I found this fast little guy while I was digging around in my compost heap. I thought it was a checkered beetle at first. It could fly, but I was able to get pictures of it inside because it took off at any angle that made it fly into the wall of the container every time it tried to take flight.

EDIT- Oops, I think it's an Antlike Flower Beetle. I stumbled upon a picture of a similar beetle while trying to ID a mite. Also there's a mite on this beetle, but I think it came off of this one because it was in the same container:

Or maybe all of the bugs in my compost heap have mites. Found in this amazing Microhabitat:

Moved
Moved from Ground Beetles.

yes, this is Anthicidae not Carabidae
I dont have a lot of experience with the group (outside of Notoxus) but someone should get a name on it for you.
