Distinctive Mystery Moth - Sympistis sorapis

Distinctive Mystery Moth - Sympistis sorapis
Camp Wood, Edwards County, Texas, USA
October 17, 2012
Size: apx. 12 mm
This is such a clearly defined moth I cannot believe I can't seem to find it. I believe it is a Noctuid.

I have tried the BG Guide, MPG and the new Peterson's Moths to no avail.

Move to species page?
John and others have relocated a large number of your moths to the family level. In cases like the present one where an ID looks solid (e.g., Sympistis perscripta), you're welcome to move them (yourself) to the species page. I'm not an editor or I'd do that maneuver for you...but then personally I like to place my own images in their proper place. Great photography!

Sympistis sp.
Compare with S. sorapis 10074.1 and S. perscripta 10154.

Distinctive Mystery
Thank you SO much for the quick response. I don't know how I missed it because I had looked through the sallows and have a note to myself to return to look for anothe of my unknowns.

Symistis perscripta is perfect! It truly IS distinctive on the sheet.
