So not #10663?
10663 – Agrotis ipsilon has the prominent "downward triangle pattern" in the upper center of the moth (that seems to be less prominent in 10664), and shows up in Maryland through summer and fall (including October). Just wondering...

Brown and Black Moth
Well, I'm from Texas and I don't know why we might be having some of the same moths, but the one I have that is similar to yours I have tentatively ID'd as a Subterranean Dart, Hodges #, [iFeltia subterranea[/i]. Again, not corroborated by an expert. But, hopefully this gives you a place to start lookihg while you wait for the experts to weigh in.

That could be it. My Pet
That could be it.
My Peterson field guide (northeast US) has a range map showing the northern extent of the Subterranean Dart running from southern Minnesota to Buffalo to Boston and the eastern extent all the way to the Atlantic coast. So all of Maryland, where my moth was found, is well within that range.
