Phaenops vs. Melanophila fulvoguttata

I was wondering why some literature use Phaenops fulvoguttata and others use Melanophila fulvoguttata for the Hemlock Borer. Which one is correct or are they two different species?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rhonda

It is Phaenops fulvoguttata
Apparently many species of Phaenops were incorrectly assigned to Melanophila in the past and later moved to the correct genus. This often happens when taxonomists examine the type species of old genera. Taxonomy is a dynamic science and is ever-changing. You can see the details on Chuck Bellamy's buprestid website.

Thank you Michael. I can usua
Thank you Michael. I can usually find some sort of reference to the old taxon but I couldn't find any for this species. Taxonomy IS very dynamic that is for sure; keeps things exciting I suppose. I appreciate the link as well.

Cheers!
