Painted Maple Aphid - Drepanaphis acerifoliae

Painted Maple Aphid - Drepanaphis acerifoliae
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
October 30, 2012
Size: 3.5mm
The most distinctive psyllid I've seen? Perhaps an aphid, though I cannot find anything with this wing shape or venation. The projecting spines on thorax are more reminiscent of assassins, but the antennal tubercles are located on top of the head. I need some help with this sucker before I have a meltdown trying to ID :D

Painted Maple Aphid
Moved from ID Request.

Thanks, Natalie. I tried googling aphid anatomy and could not find anything with "spikes" or even antennae banded like this specimen.

Yeah just not a whole lot out there.
Before I started studying aphids I knew jack about them, and trying to find information on them is extremely difficult. Really a tough group that needs a lot of work.

Aphid
Drepanaphis acerifoliae

In the key for this genus this species keys out very early since they have dark prothoracic femora (especially dorsally), fuscous around the wing veins, and large tubercles.
