Elmidae: Cleptelmis or Atractelmis? - Cleptelmis addenda
Nespelem, Okanagan County, Washington, USA
June 29, 2011
Size: 3.75 mm
This specimen keys to either Cleptelmis or Atractelmis. Circle 'a' indicates the undivided postpleurite of the prothorax. Circle 'b' shows elongate setae along the posterior margin of the sixth abdominal tergite. Through the microscope, these setae appear light colored, and not immediately apparent. Is this specimen Cleptelmis, or Atractelmis?

Moved from ID Request.

Those setae appear very dark in Atractelmis -- dark enough that we should see most of them even in the photo.

atractelmis
Thanks Brady. These are Cleptelmis then.
