Moth - Thera juniperata

Moth - Thera juniperata
Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada
November 2, 2012

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Thera juniperata is correct.

Nice find for 11/2/12, it's a worn one.

Wet Coast weather
You have to remember that we have a substantially different climate from the rest of Canada here in Southwest B.C. Winter is hard to define.

Gulf Coast Winters
Gulf Coast Winters are easy to describe ... 15 minutes :)

Weather and Life Cycle
Is there a short answer to what pushes the life cycle of moths? We had an late but dry and extended summer two weeks into October followed by steady rain spells since. In fact it was both the driest and wettest October on record.

I don't think so
Mostly, they are driven by their own biological clocks. I'm continually amazed at the number of insects that show up almost to the day, year after year, particularly univoltines & bivoltins. As for the rain, you might not see many, because they've taken to safe harbor. Hope this answers your question
Robert

Thanks
Our moths come equipped with duck suits.

Juniper Carpet Moth?
Looks like a Juniper Carpet Moth (7217) to me.
