Identification
Combination of red pronotum with black spot (latter rarely absent), shiny black elytra with white hairs is distinctive(1)(2)
Range
e NA west to the Rockies - Map (3)(4) (the only eastern species)
Food
Larvae feed in dead limbs of Hickory (Carya) or Hackberry (Celtis)(1)
