There are apparently six sphinx moths that host on ash
according to Wagner
(
1
)
. He doesn't mention any of them having the four horns at the front, though. Is there any chance it came from a nearby basswood, birch or elm tree? It looks kind of like the four-horned sphinx,
Ceratomia amyntor
, which hosts on those. By the size and color, I'd say it could be about to pupate, so it might have been wandering in search of a good place.
