The gloss and color make me think this is a flea beetle, but the pronotum doesn't seem right.

found one near Medicine Hat t
found one near Medicine Hat today in the company of flea beetles that looked very similar. That protonum made me look twice as well

haha
this is a ground beetle (Carabidae) actually, genus Lebia (prob. L. vittata). Some are parasitoids on chrysomelids and often look like their hosts.
