Catorhintha on a Four O'clock - Catorhintha mendica

Catorhintha on a Four O'clock - Catorhintha mendica
6 miles NW Lyons, Boulder County, Colorado, USA
September 5, 2012
Size: BL about 10 mm
This Catorhintha was found on a Four O'Clock, Oxybaphus hirsutus along with one nymph. We suspect it is either C. mendica (which is known to feed extensively on a Four O'Clock, Wild Four O'Clock (Mirabilis nyctaginea), or C. guttula. C. mendica, side view on BugGuide #528864, has the same black band through the eye which C. guttula lacks. This same species was seen a few days later and about a quarter-mile distant, also on the same kind of plant.
The nymph was posted on BugGuide #720897.
