Flannel Moth - Megalopyge opercularis

Flannel Moth - Megalopyge opercularis
Gainesville, Florida, USA
This amazing walking ball of fur was a great surprise at first glance, having to wonder if it were a Lepidoptera larva at first. My enthusiastic coworker Hannah Nendick-Mason quickly pinned down this ID.

Moved
Moved from Black-waved Flannel Moth. I'm pretty sure this is Southern Flannel Moth, based on the tail-like tuft of hairs at the back, and rusty-red crest.

Nice
Good thing you didn't touch it! otherwise you would be very sorry!
