this is well beyond the range mapped by Hurd (1955) for this species and subspecies

 
Interesting.
I have lived in my current home since '92 and spend a lot of time in my extensive flower garden. I first noticed these large black carpenter bees perhaps 5-7 years ago. Thanks for the I.D.
