Odd caterpillar

Odd caterpillar
Blanco, Blanco County, Texas, USA
November 9, 2012
I found these tiny caterpillars on the seedhead of a climbing snapdragon vine. When I'd touch one, it'd snap upward (second photo). Up and down, every time I'd touch it. I'm sorry the photos are poor quality but it was hard to shoot them.

Similar caterpillars and pupae
can be found among the plume moths, but we don't have much success with getting detailed IDs, sorry, :(

Cocoon?
Oh, so what I'm seeing and touching are the cocoons, not the larvae. Right? That would explain the snapping behavior. So these photos are of cocoons.
