Stem vein
First couplet of Terry Whitworth's key:(1)

1. Basal section of stem vein setose above Chrysomyinae ... 2
-. Basal section of stem vein bare above ... 9

It appears that the stem vein
It appears that the stem vein setae are present on this specimen, as well as one of the other two similar appearing flies submitted at the same time as this one...the one with the bronze thorax and green metallic abdomen (as opposed to the one with the green thorax and green abdomen, which did NOT have the setae on the proximal stem vein). Question is, why do the blue fly and the green one look so different with only one species listed for Phormia ? Are there other species of Phormia, or are one of the flies not Phormia despite the full-body metallic appearance and the setose stem veins ?

Phormia is variable
Color of Phormia regina varies. Illustrated key to Eastern species at http://www.biology.ualberta.ca/bsc/ejournal/mwr_11/mwr_11.html may help.
