Perdita calochorti - male

Perdita calochorti - Male
Mount Pinos, near summit, elev. 2632 m, Kern County, California, USA
July 2, 2012
Size: 7 mm
Male in Calochortus invenustus.
All specimens were examined by Doug Yanega. Specimens were compared with Perdita (Pygoperdita) tularensis, P. (P.) californica, and P. (P.) calochorti. No match for either gender with the first two species. In the males calochorti was a perfect match (i.e. pygidial sculpturing, and clypeal markings wrapping around eye to gena). In females Doug noticed some slight differences in leg color, darker veins in wing, propodeal punctures differing somewhat (coarser?). Doug remarked that Timberlake might have called this a subspecies of calochorti.
