pompilid - Tachypompilus ferrugineus - Male
fayetteville, washington County, Arkansas, USA
August 22, 2006
Size: ~18mm
i think i am safe in calling this a Tachypompilus ferrugineus... i have seen a number of them this year, and this is as close as i have come to getting a decent picture. also, is it possible to tell if this is a male.

Male
Note, 7 abdominal segments, thick antennae, with F1 short and also, no tarsal rake on forelegs = ♂

Moved

Yes.
This is indeed Tachypompilus ferrugineus, one of the more distinctive pompilids (thank God there ARE some:-)

T. ferrugineus
yeah, thankfully this is one of the easy to ID species, and as far as i know the only one in its genus in my area. just thought i would add it because of the shortage of pompilids on the site... i am trying to turn that around, and trying to give Nick more to identify. thanks Eric, i will move it to its correct location.
