How do you distinguish..
...
Fissicrambus quadrinotellus
(#5485)? I've tended to believe the
spotted ones
were "
quadrinotellus
" and the ones with longitudinal dark
streaking
were "
profanellus
". Yet, as I peruse offerings on MPG, I see some
F. quadrinotellus
which by-in-large *lack* the characteristic four dark spots (see, e.g., Mike Quinn's critter
here
from Austin) and conversely, some images of
F. profanellus
which are well-spotted (e.g. Carol Wolf's banner
image
on the
profanellus
page). So, how are these separated? What am I doing wrong?
