Eastern Yellowjacket - Vespula maculifrons

Eastern Yellowjacket - Vespula maculifrons
Collegedale, Hamilton County, Tennessee, USA
August 12, 2006

Wow,
I have never seen one with such perfect markings like this one, nice image!!

Vespula maculifrons
This is the Eastern Yellow Jacket. A very common species in our area. You can id this one by the arrow shape on the abdomen. In our trap collecting here in Warren and Grundy Counties, this species was collected the most. The Southern Yellow Jacket was probably a very close second. Great photo.
