Neolema gunlachiana? - Neolema gundlachiana

Neolema gunlachiana? - Neolema gundlachiana
Largo/Largo Nature Preserve, Pinellas County, Florida, USA
October 7, 2012
Size: ~6mm
Could this be Neolema gunlachiana? If not, what? I think I've checked all the leaf beetle images, both here and on google images, but find nothing with quite the same markings

ID confirmed by M.C. Thomas
his note: "That's what I would call it. The correct spelling, however, is gundlachiana. Supposedly quite rare, but I've seen a few over the years from the southern part of the state."

so, very nice find -- happy to have it in the guide! keep them coming, Roger.

Moved from Neolema.

Thanks for confirmation!
Thanks for the confirmation, and the spelling correction. Using the corrected spelling, I found this page at the Smithsonian's Collections Search Center website, which shows a diagram of this particular individual.

looks interesting... will show around
indicated size unrealistic, though.
please note that size data only help if measured in mm, otherwise the field is better left blank [estimates are useless for identification purposes, and more often mislead than help]
Moved from ID Request.

Re: looks interesting... will show around
Sorry, Made an error in conversion from std to metric. It was about half the size of the 12mm I posted. I've corrected the size data in the post.

thanks for correcting data -- makes more sense now
again, converting fails to ensure the required accuracy, so it's better to leave the size field blank

Re: thanks for correcting data -- makes more sense now
Not sure I understand how converting from one standard of measure to another is inaccurate, but I will refrain from posting size data unless I'm positive of its value.

A notation should probably be included about this on the Submit Image input form for the Size field.

converting alway leads to loss of accuracy
as far as the vast majority of beetles is concerned, diagnostic size differences are of the order of 0.1 mm; to ensure this accuracy your initial measurements must be taken at at least 1/64" accuracy
