Small Wasp - Dipogon sayi

Small Wasp - Dipogon sayi
Springfield, Virginia, USA
September 20, 2004
A very quick moving small wasp, constantly walking around or flying from leaf to leaf and often flicking its patterned wings. Any help identifying is appreciated.

Spider wasp
Fantastic!! This is a species of Dipogon, a type of spider wasp usually found running up and down tree trunks where it strongly resembles an ant. This is one we need for the field guide, Richard, and a superb image!

Dipogon sayi
It is a female Dipogon sayi.

Thanks, Eric.
Being a spider wasp, I assume it hunts spiders... and I did happen to find it near a big yellow crab spider, though I doubt it was going for it. Anyway, thanks for the quick reply!
