Tabanus atratus? - Tabanus atratus - Female
Eastwood, Carter County, Missouri, USA
August 22, 2006
Size: approximately 1 inch
I found this gal along the edge of my pond a couple of days ago. She was so intent on laying her eggs that she allowed me to get the camera and monopod withing 2 inches of her. I later saw her or another fly laying more eggs on the other side of the pond, 50' away.

Your date seems a little off.
Nice shot!

No, I really did
take the photo when I was two years old! ;) Oops. Oh well, I fixed it. Thanks!
