What a surprise! - Myrmecina americana

What a surprise! - Myrmecina americana
Basking Ridge, Somerset County, New Jersey, USA
December 1, 2012
Queen. I found her last, when I was about to dump the contents of the bucket outside. At first I thought she was a different species, maybe an acorn ant queen or something, but then she curled up when I picked her up. I put two and two together and realized she was probably their queen.
