Oakworm Moth (Pupa) - Anisota senatoria

Oakworm Moth (Pupa) - Anisota senatoria
Durham County, North Carolina, USA
September 20, 2004
Size: 30 mm
I collected these oakworms on 8/31/04 as they dispersed in my neighborhood--they are found wandering across roads, sidewalks, and lawns, essentially identical to this one found a few days earlier:

I gave them a jar with loose soil and dry leaves, and they disappeared into the soil after a day or two. 4/6 formed viable pupae. The longest pupa is about 30 mm. As of August 3, 2005, two males and one female had emerged from these, all in late July.
