This is probably the Black Blister Beetle, Epicauta pennsylvanica. It was feeding on Frost Aster (Awl Aster), Symphyotrichum pilosum, formerly Aster pilosus. Univ. Florida Extension: Aster flowers are frequently devoured by the black blister beetle, occasionally by the margined blister beetle, and rarely by two or three other species, the gray blister beetle, and the ash-gray blister beetle. (The Black Blister Beetle is E. pennsylvanica.)
