Gray Comma - Polygonia progne

Gray Comma - Polygonia progne
New Ashford, Lanesboro, or maybe Hancock... ?, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, USA
July 9, 2011
I participated in the North Berkshire NABA count in 2011. Was driving up a gravel road near Mount Greylock when I flushed a Polygonia from the road. Got out and walked a bit. An adjacent meadow let the sun shine on the road that was otherwise through dense forest, and a small seep kept part of the road damp, creating very nice puddling conditions, apparently. This critter was joined by at least 6 Eastern Comma, two Great Spangled Fritillary, snd three each Peck's and Dun Skippers, all drawing minerals from the road.
