Identification
Females typically have crossed interfrontal setae and the anterior orbital bristle directed forward.
Remarks
North American genera:
Azelia – Hind coxa with bristles, anal vein short, hind tibia without posterodorsal bristles
Drymeia – Black, bristly and hairy species with black halteres; all but one species boreal-alpine
Hydrotaea (including Ophyra) – typically shiny black with a contrasting white lunule
Potamia (formerly Dendrophaonia) – strong upcurved genal bristle (also in some exotic Azeliini)
Thricops – Hind coxa with bristles, anal vein long, hind tibia with posterodorsal bristles
