Wasp - Dielis plumipes - female

Wasp - Dielis plumipes - Female
Gainesville, Florida, USA
September 21, 2004
I have seen this fairly large wasp a few times recently. The abdomen seems abnormally long in proportion to the rest of the body. I have twice seen the behavior pictured here, where two of its legs are held up above its head while feeding.

Seems to resemble Campsomeris (below). Can anyone confirm, or account for the odd leg position?

Same Wasp I Think
Hi Hannah, check http://bugguide.net/node/view/5687 for comparison. That was as much as I could narrow it down. There are also two additional shots of the same subject on my pages.

Thanks, Alan
Your picture backs up my Campsomeris theory. Will move to Scoliids pending further clarification.
