8555 -- The Herald Moth -- Scoliopteryx libatrix
... known for overwintering in caves. Carroll Rudy and a naturalist in Wisconsin have discovered a "colony" of Hops Vine Moths, Hypena humuli, utilizing a cave (along with four species of bats) in one of their nature preserves.

Thanks, Bob. Even while I was puuting this image up, I kept thinking that I'd seen this moth before in my stock of images, but just couldn't place where. Your description finally reminded me. The Caves. I'm putting on the site tonight, this moth , along with a few others that I photographed inside a sandstone cave in Red Wing, MN., in 1998. I look forward to any more info you may have about them.
