Stenolophus - Agonoleptus

Stenolophus - Agonoleptus
Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
July 28, 2010
Size: 3.6 mm
Swept from grasses.

Moved
Moved from Seedcorn Beetles.

doesn't strike me as Stenolophus, i must confess...
intriguing.

me either, for what it's worth
can't wrap my head around it at the moment though.

Rounded pronotum and coloration suggests Agonoleptus
at or near A. conjunctus, a widespread species which extends into the southwest. Uncharacteristic lighter shading of head and elytra further suggests a teneral state which does not quite approach the completely pale coloration of teneral A. conjunctus posted here and here. I have not seen other western members of the A. conjunctus species group so I'm open to other ideas. The main body parts do appear to me broader and rounder than I would like for A. conjunctus-- so it could be something entirely else!
