Thank you
I appreciate all of the work. The description and illustration linked in Iustin Cret's entry http://www.scielo.org.mx/img/revistas/rmbiodiv/v78n2/a11f1.jpg for Anochrostomus formosus appears to match this nymph.

I think it
look like a nymph of a species in genus Oncopeltus.
Probably Oncopeltus sanguineolentus. See here

Thank you
It looks like it to me. I appreciate your help! I was not sure if it was on a Burrobrush (my plant IDs are even worse than my insect IDs), especially as this bug is reported to be fairly specific for Desert Milkweed - Asclepias subulata. After reviewing the photos of this nymph, and others of Burrobrush and Desert Milkweed, I think that this is Burrobrush. I'll post another photo of this nymph with the flowers visible for anyone who might want to verify the ID. Thank you for your help - I would have never found this otherwise!

I think you're right about host plant.
Burrobrush (Hymenoclea salsola) it is in Asteraceae family.
Here
http://www.scielo.org.mx/img/revistas/rmbiodiv/v78n2/a11f1.jpg
Nymph, stage 5, ( at the bottom, left fig.F) of Anochrostomus formosus, it might be much closer to nymph from your photo.
If I'm not mistaken, I can not interpret the description made here (down on page)
http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?pid=S1870-34532007000200011&script=sci_arttext
Here
http://www.erevistas.csic.es/ficha_articulo.php?url=oai:ojs.phoenicis.tic.unam.mx:article/5335&oai_iden=oai_revista493
write: Anochrostomus formosus is mainly associated with plants of the family Asteraceae.
This is just another hypothesis on it might be.
In fact I have seen only nymf of Oncopeltus fasciatus and I made connection with BG images for Oncopeltus sanguineolentus.
Now, I paid more atention to the host plant. So I found about Anochrostomus formosus. But I did not find a picture of nymph of Anochrostomus formosus.

Melanopleurus
here
.
Don't think this is
A. formosus
, that said. I think this belongs to a different genus, I can't remember right now. Maybe
Melanopleurus
, or something close.
