Sedge beetle - Palaeothona picta
Canaan, Litchfield County, Connecticut, USA

Size: 2.7 mm
On 4/5/2012 I dug up a sedge, potted it, and put the pot in a plastic bag, hoping to rear some Cosmopterix larvae that were mining in the leaves. On 5/14/12 this beetle appeared in the bag--apparently it had been overwintering in the soil and had just emerged.
