Orchard bee - Osmia lignaria propinqua - with phoretic mites

Moved
Moved from Chaetodactylus.

Chaetodactylus krombeini
The chaetodactylid species normally associated with Osmia lignaria across North America is Chaetodactylus krombeini. These are cleptoparasites in the nests and can be a problem in mason bees managed for orchard pollination.

probably Chaetodactylus
Given the host, these are likely phoretic mites in the genus Chaetodactylus (Astigmata: Chaetodactylidae), although one would have to slide-mount some specimens to be sure. There is a lot of information about these mites here: http://insects.ummz.lsa.umich.edu/beemites/Species_Accounts/Chaetodactylus.htm
