Male Araneus miniatus? - Araneus - Male
Durham, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
December 30, 2012
This was a very small spider.

Are there additional images
We would especially like to get a better view of the spot(s) on the 'shoulders' of the abdomen.

Moved to Araneus
Moved from ID Request. Yes, nice one. As John says it's one of the smaller male Araneus species. They can be tougher to ID than the females. I don't suppose you've seen any females around?

Thank you, Lynette!
This was a very solitary spider. Most of the spiders I find around here are on trail bollards and apparently were blown there by the wind. But a group of False Black Widow spiderlings do wind up as a group, the only exceptions to that rule!

Maybe
a male Araneus, I'm not sure of the species but here is something similar as an example. The two spots are interesting and may help with an ID.

Thank you, John!
