The Confederate, #9714 - Condica confederata
n.w. Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA
December 3, 2012
This seems to be similar to some of the dark individuals of Condica confederata such as Carol Wolf's image on MPG here. The pattern of pale patches on the outer FW margin is very similar, and unlike anything else I can find. Opinions would be appreciated. The present moth was high on a wall and was photographed from a low angle from the rear, distorting the wingshape somewhat. The "punk" hairdo seems to be a feature of many Condica's. At porchlight in wooded (juniper-oak-elm) suburban area.

Think you're right
Chuck,
I lightened your image some, to be able to see details better. Notice how what appears to be a dotted ST intersects near the somewhat jagged PM, visible near inner margins. This is exactly like Carol's specimen on MPG. Also, yours has a white-filled reniform and a hollow orbicular like Carol's. Assuming the ID of Carol Wolf's specimen is correct, I'd say your assessment is spot on.
Robert
